Arsenal star Mesut Ozil has come out in support of Jose Mourinho and believes the 52-year-old, who is tipped to take over at Manchester United, will succeed in his next position.
The Portuguese manager was dismissed at Stamford Bridge last week after the Blues won just four of their opening 16 league matches this term.
Ozil, who has been Arsenal’s stand-out performer this season, played under Mourinho for three years during his Real Madrid days.
The controversial boss is being widely-tipped to take over from Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford and Ozil thinks, no matter where Mourinho ends up, he will succeed in his next job.
‘I’m surprised by what happened with Jose,’ Ozil said.
‘He’s a great manager. I believe that any club he goes to now he will be successful again.
‘I know how special he is as a manager. He’s a manager who always supports his team and always protects his team.
‘He gets the best out of any player. I wish him all the best for the future and also that he’s healthy and fine.’
