THERE are indications that some students of Delta
State University are grappling with the nefarious
activities of homosexuals in their hostels,
particularly in Abraka and Ethiope halls.
Although no arrest has been made, the university
management has restricted movement at the wee
hours to enable it to check the activities of the
perpetrators.
It was gathered that in Abraka and Ethiope hostels,
activities of the perverts who were not only out for
sexual gratification, but also for ritual purposes,
were at their peaks during the night.
Some students of the institution, who spoke with
Southern City News on condition of anonymity,
called on the university authorities to come to their
aid before the situation would get out of hand.
While investigation revealed that some persons
involved in the act did so willingly, some were
allegedly forced into the illicit activities.
An eyewitness said the perpetrators were well
coordinated like cultists and in some cases
pretended to be worshippers.
He said, “These homosexuals take delight in their
illicit act in the early hours of the day when
unsuspecting students rush to the bathrooms to
take their bath. They are so connected in the
university that no one dare report them to the
university authorities.”
But the university spokesman, Mr. Edward Agbure,
who neither denied nor confirmed the activities of
the homosexuals, urged any of the students
assaulted by the homosexuals to report the issue
to the school authorities for necessary action.
He said, “As an organisation, the university has a
channel for making complaints any student who
was been assaulted should explore these channel
and we will take it from there.”
Further investigation revealed that it might be
difficult for the university authorities to uncover
those behind the act as they seem to have the
backing of some highly placed lecturers and
Deans.
But the State Police Commissioner in the state, Mr.
Ailkali Baba Usman, said in a telephone interview
that divisional police stations in the areas had been
directed to spread their investigation with a view to
bringing the perpetrators to book.
